Season 3 - Game 5 Grassmarket

After a couple of late call offs, Finchy saved the day by taking the 5th seat, but after some initial promise,  is first to bust out after making a big hero call with 2nd pair v Nigels top pair.
Nick next to bust after flopping two pair v Nigel. Nigel jammed all in with a flush draw and open ender and completed the straight.
String was next to go after getting outdrawn. With two players all in preflop, Nigel with A8 v the strings A10, the 8 duly arrived and String was toast.
That left Gav and Nigel heads up.
Nigels monster 7 2 off managed to out flop Gavs pocket 4's and it was all over.
Nigel jumps up to 3rd in the league.

There was one reentry, so £50 to Nigel, £10 to Gav for 2nd place. No winners for the Trip six, so £17 rolls over for the trip six jackpot.

Season 3 Game 3 Brian Cruises to victory.

Quite a restrained game on the whole this one. Nothing too crazy happened until shortly before the 3rd level when Gav lost a monster pot to Andy.  Feeling the short stack pressure after that, Gav reached for the All in button with pocket Jacks but they finished 2nd to my KQ and Gav got busted out first, but with the buy ins still on, he reloaded for another 2.5k. That didn't last too long though as shortly after the break, Andy and Gav faced a double elimination at my hands, when my A7 managed to pull off the great escape against Andys pocket Aces and Gavs pocket 6's, in a 3 way all in.

Next busted was Fraser, who's patience was not rewarded....when he did finally get a decent hand, the AK was to finish 2nd to my j 4 after shipping all his chips in with just a couple of blinds left. Still, Gavs early bath means Fraser takes lead in the table.

Next out was Nigel, followed by Finchy in 3rd, can't remember the exact details of the bust outs but I'm pretty sure Brian busted both out.

Heads up was me and Brian, and that lasted exactly one hand. I shipped my short stack with jq and Brian snapped me off with a 10 7 off.
Cards ran out with a 10 and Brian scooped a very decent £100 prize for his troubles.
£10 for 2nd place to me.

Points were awarded: Brian 20, Nick 15, Finchy 12, Nigel 12 (+3), Fraser 6, Gav and Andy 2 points each.

£6 in trip six fund £6 in league fund.

The reigning league champion enjoys a cigar, but has an off night.

Season 3 Game 2 - Fraser winner as last man standing.

The game was most memorable for Fray “The Sleeping Giant” Grant eating a slice of seemingly rohypnol laced pizza which zonked him out for about two hours. However, his remaining pizza was saved for him, and when the Ancient One awoke and fed he went on to trounce all opposition, claiming a hard fought and long winded victory. Only one point of major controversy arose when a cataclysmic dealer error meant Nigel missed out on a massive pot when he called Gav’s all in with trip Jacks versus two pair, Jacks/Kings.

When the long, long four handed game finally came to an end, with Gav impatiently going all in with 8/10 suited, blinds were almost at 10/20K and the game came to a fairly quick end.

The most obvious barometer of whether it was a good night is that the host had to be reminded of all placings and buy ins as he has next to zero recollection of the evening’s events apart from the two paragraphs above.

Congratulations to Fray for a deserved victory and to Nigel for finally claiming the honour of the Dark One.

Like a true poker pro Fray ‘sp**ked every penny of winnings on Thomas toys and lunch at Nando’s’.

Peace

Season 2 - Game 8 Guvnor slumbers to title.

Time for a snooze on the way to picking up league title.

This always looked likely to be a victory procession for Gav, with the only scenario which could derail Gav's title challenge, being a clear victory for Nigel combined with a 0 point score for the Guvnor.

A bit of pre-game negotiation from Frazer meant buy ins would be permitted as Frazer reckoned he usually finishes 2nd.

Gav went for the unorthodox style of ensuring victory by going on an extended power nap and waiting for everyone else to knock each other out, whilst just suffering a gradual erosion of chips as the blinds took their toll.

Season 2 - Game 7 - Gav smokin' hot.

The Jamie Thomson invitational was notable for having two casualties pre-pizza which may be a first. Perhaps most surprising was the disappearance of the eponymous Coco Jambo who retreated to his scratcher less than two hours into the game. Birthday boy, the Mourning Finch, chose to slumber gently at the table with Joe successfully saving his slow motion tipping beer in true Alan Rough style.

Jonny came hoping to sprinkle some magic dust on the proceedings and his powers did indeed produce two zombies in true Voodoo style. Finch was first out; brazenly raising Guvnor's value bet and then calling an all in with a pair of kings versus a club flush.

Season 2 - Game 6 - Nigel takes in down

Big result for Nigel, pulls nicely back into contention for the title, after besting the 6 seat table. As well as moving up to 2nd place he currently tops the all important winnings column, with this scoop taking the total to £160 over the last 6 games. He's also the only guy to take down two games so far. Looking like its going to be between Nigel and Gav for the season two crown with just two to go..
